Successful launch of the Swiss Gender Medicine Symposium

On October 30, 2024, University Medicine Zurich launched the Swiss Gender Medicine Symposium together with numerous guests from science, politics and business. This new platform aims to publicize findings from gender medicine research and promote a broad exchange on the topic.

Gender medicine is an innovative field of research that aims to improve the gender balance in healthcare. It advances personalized medicine and improves the quality of treatment for everyone.

In recent years, gender medicine has increasingly come into focus. The topic has been taken up at all universities and research projects and educational programs have been created. The Federal Council has also recognized the need for action and adopted a national research programme, which began its work in 2024. The national research program is a good start to promoting this highly innovative branch of research. It must be followed by further research initiatives to close the numerous research gaps.

The Swiss Gender Medicine Symposium is one of these initiatives. The symposium is intended to provide a platform to publicize new research findings and promote exchange between researchers, healthcare professionals, representatives from politics and business as well as the interested public. The first Swiss Gender Medicine Symposium will take place on October 20/21, 2025 in the Kursaal Bern.
