Diverse program with international participation

The Swiss Gender Medicine Symposium program highlights many different aspects of gender medicine. International speakers include Prof. Londa Schiebinger (Stanford University), a pioneer in gender research in the history of science with a particular focus on the natural sciences and medicine, Prof. Louise Pilote (McGill University Montreal), an expert on gender-specific manifestations of cardiovascular disease, and Prof. Vera Regitz-Zagrosek (Charité Berlin), one of the pioneers of gender medicine in Europe.

Switzerland is also well represented, including Ruth Metzler-Arnold, former Federal Councilor and President of Swiss Olympic, Prof. Carole Clair (Unisanté Lausanne), President of the Steering Committee of the National Research Program “Gender Medicine and Health,” and Prof. Guido Beldi (University Hospital Bern), who is involved in continuing education in gender medicine as a visceral surgeon.

The broad spectrum of topics ranges from sports medicine and prevention to surgery and oncology to the opportunities and risks of artificial intelligence and big data and the innovative potential of gender medicine. The legal framework for research and drug development will also be discussed, as well as the question of how gender medicine findings can be integrated into training.

Networking and interdisciplinary exchange between all stakeholders to overcome the gender gap

With National Research Program 83, “Gender Medicine and Health”, the Federal Council is specifically promoting research aimed at laying the foundations for a more equitable and sustainable healthcare system. The goal is to close the gender gap—differences in the quality of treatment between the sexes.

The Swiss Gender Medicine Symposium builds on this and emphasizes the importance of gender-sensitive medicine. Through research projects and practical examples from medical care, the symposium brings together stakeholders from science, politics, and business and strengthens Switzerland's commitment to evidence-based, internationally pioneering healthcare.
