Swiss Gender Medicine Symposium
Where Evidence Meets Practice
Gender medicine has long since answered the question of whether biological sex and gender play a role. The evidence is clear. What remains is the more challenging task: translating this knowledge into clinical practice, research structures, and health policy. That is precisely what this symposium is all about.
On October 26 and 27, 2026, the second Swiss Gender Medicine Symposium at the Kursaal Bern will bring together leading voices from clinical practice, research, and health policy, from Switzerland and around the world. The program is aimed at professionals in medicine, research, public health, industry, and politics and covers clinical guidelines, global health, men’s health, medical education, as well as AI and bias in big data.

National Initiative Gender Medicine
In Switzerland, numerous people, institutions and organizations are committed to gender medicine. The basis of the initiative is the cooperation of 5 Swiss medical faculties in gender medicine, which is being expanded by additional partners. The aim of the symposium is to merge these networking efforts into a network in order to strengthen the innovative approach of gender medicine in Switzerland and make it internationally visible.
The federal government has also now recognized the importance of the field. A year ago, the Federal Council launched the National Research Program " Gender Medicine and Health " with the aim of creating an evidence-based knowledge base in Switzerland for taking the dimensions of sex and gender into account in the areas of health research, medicine and public health.
