KEYNOTE - Sex and Female Biology: From Brain Mechanism to Better Health

Prof. Dr. Liisa Galea, University of Toronto, CA

Liisa Galea is Treliving Family Chair in Women’s Mental Health at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) in Toronto and leads the Women’s Health Research Cluster, a global network of more than 1,200 members. An internationally recognized neuroscientist, her research examines the influence of sex and sex hormones on brain health, behaviour, and disease, with a particular focus on stress-related psychiatric disorders and dementia.
Her work aims to advance understanding of sex differences in health and disease to improve brain health outcomes for all. Dr. Galea has received numerous national and international awards, serves on scientific advisory committees worldwide, and is a highly cited researcher.
Beyond her scientific contributions, Dr. Galea is a dedicated advocate for women’s health research and for the integration of sex- and gender-based analyses across biomedical and health research to improve health outcomes for diverse populations.
